CANBERRA: Australian prime minister John Howard says a federal government plan that has just been prepared to stop regional deforestation can achieve more reduction in emissions than envisaged for the country had it joined the Kyoto protocol.
Howard said the government is earmarking $200 million under a plan to tackle climate change by reducing the number of trees cut down in Indonesia. The money will be spent over five years.
