Dr Chetan Kumar is a Manager of Landscape Restoration Science and Knowledge with the Global Forest and Climate Change Program, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), based in Washington, DC. He has a strong track record for conducting and managing interdisciplinary research programs on environment and development issues.

Kumar’s work has mainly focused on promoting understanding and practical application of research on important issues in the forestry sector such as forest landscape restoration, the link between forestry and poverty, conservation-development tradeoffs, the role of ecosystem services in poverty alleviation, and climate change adaptation. He manages knowledge- and capacity-building projects on forest landscape restoration, and has published several peer-reviewed journal articles, reports, working papers, policy briefs and short communication pieces.

He has previously held positions at the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the University of Cambridge, the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). He holds a Master’s in Forestry Management (India), an MPhil and PhD in Geography from University of Cambridge (UK).
