HE Dato Ali Apong
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Brunei Darussalam
The HE Dato Ali Apong was appointed Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism for the Government of Brunei Darussalam in 2015. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office from 2010, with a portfolio that included the management of the Brunei Economic Development Board and the Department of Economic Planning and Development. His career of more than 30 years in finance spans work in the Brunei Investment Agency, Ministry of Finance and several Islamic banking initiatives. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Brunei International Financial Centre, the Syariah Financial Supervisory Order, the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management, and in the introduction of the Supplementary Contributory Pension scheme, which ensures monthly income for retirees over the age of 60. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Reading, as well as an MBA and Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, United Kingdom.
