HE U Ohn Win
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Myanmar
HE U Ohn Win is Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of the Union of the Republic of Myanmar, as of March 2016. Before this appointment, he worked as Watershed Management and Environmental Specialist for several international organizations and NGOs, including UNDP, the International Institute for Development (IID), the Myanmar Institute for Integrated Development (MIID), GDZ, and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
U Ohn Win held the position of Pro-Rector at the University of Forestry (UoF) in Yezin until 2011. Prior to this, he served subsequently in several high level positions as Director of the Planning and Statistic Department at the Ministry of Forestry; Director of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Yezin; and Director the Shan State Forest Department and Mon State Forest Department.
He has extensive experience spanning several decades in the forestry sector and in watershed management, including positions as university lecturer and associate professor, senior instructor, Assistant Director of the Kinda Dam Watershed Management Project funded by UNDP/FAO, and as staff and plantation officer in different forestry departments.
The Minister holds a BSc in Forestry from Yangon Arts and Sciences University, and a diploma in Ergonomics from the University of Philippines, Los Baños. He received his Master of Science in Watershed Management from Colorado State University in the US.
