Abstract
In connection with a Pan American Health Organization project concerned with the populations of monkeys in Peru, the authors conducted investigations into the "carne de monte" market in Iquitos. This report covering the period from February to August 1973, shows that the consumption of Lagothrix Ateles, Pithecia, and Alouatta in Iquitos approached or exceeded the numbers exported during this period. When one considers the "carne de monte" consumption of rural Loretto, the implicatios for the populations of these and other species, especially Cebus albi C. apella, Callicebus torquatus, and C. Moloch, becomes highly significant.
