Abstract
When the logging road was opened to traffic, many poachers and traders in bushmeat came to the villages in the heart of the forest, with miscellaneous goods and liquors. They also brought to the villages a variety of hunting tools, including steel wires, guns and bullets. Some of them hunt by themselves under the Baka’s guidance, others commission the Baka to hunt. Consequently, hunting mode of the village has drastically changed from subsistence to commercial. The Baka hunters consumed one of three captures in their home, and the rest were sold to purchase for food and alcoholic drinks. Hunting pressure seems to be excessive, while hunting efficiency has not considerably declined yet. Game population would rapidly deteriorate and make the forest “empty”, if the hunting pressure remains at the present level.
