Forest tenure reforms in Nepal, Indonesia and China have allocated a considerable area to smallholder and community-based forest management though they vary greatly in terms of their design and implementation, including which rights and responsibilities, as well as economic incentives, are associated with land transfers. This session will bring together scholars and practitioners primarily from these countries to share national and sub-national case studies of tenure reform processes. Cases will seek to characterize common variables as well as context specific factors that have so far affected reform outcomes.
