Capacity building of local government and community members for Mangrove Restoration

2021 - online, online,

Mangroves are among the most ecologically, economically, and socially valuable ecosystems. This coastal ecosystem has long been known for providing various ecosystem services such as food resources and livelihood for the local community, prevention of abrasion, floods, pollutions, and the adverse effects of ocean surges. By having 3-5 times more carbon stocks than any other lowland forests, this unique ecosystem has great potential in regulating global climate and conserving biodiversity.

A Synthesis and Way Forward

2020 - online, online,

The global extent of tropical peatlands and peat swamp forests is relatively small, yet these ecosystems play an important role in the global carbon (C) cycle. Peatlands cover only 3% of earth’s land surface, however, peatland can store twice as much C as all the world’s forests. Peatlands also provide numerous ecosystem services ranging from regulating (climate, flood, and pollution abatement), provisioning (food, fibre, water, genetic resources), supporting (biodiversity, primary production, nutrient cycling), and socio-cultural (cultural use, recreation, education).
