With a view to get a progress update, Temasek Foundation, Temasek and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise visited PAR CBFPR Action Arenas and University of Riau in 8-10 April 2019. Leaders and representatives from the Forest Management Unit (KPH), Fire Fighter Unit, Bukit Batu sub-district government and Dompas village government were among the attendees. During their visit, we had discussions and field visits to meet with local partners and the local community. Community-based organizations (e.g. the Fire Care Community, farmer group and farmer families) who manage each Action Arena presented activity progress and gave testimonies of their ongoing PAR CBFPR activities.
As well as discussions and field visits, one programmed activity in this visit was symbolic planting. Temasek Foundation, Temasek and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise visited each action arena to plant trees and cash crops, such as swamp meranti, ramin, agarwood, pineapple and coffee, together with the local community, partners and stakeholders. We hope this symbolic planting marked the participation and support from the participating groups. During the visit, we obtained rich input and testimonies which we plan to incorporate in our future work.
