Dr. Ramon A. Razal is a professor in the Dept. of Forest Products and Paper Science (FPPS) of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), where he teaches Wood Chemistry, Non-Timber Forest Products, and many other courses. Currently, he is Editor-in-chief of the Ecosystems and Development Journal and Member of the Board of Trustees of Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme. He is senior author of “Non-Wood Forest Products of the Philippines” (2009) and published scientific and popular articles, book chapters and training modules. He was Dean of the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources from 2002 until January 2008. He also served as Associate Dean, Director of Training Center (TREES), and Chair of the Department of Wood Science and Technology. He obtained the BS Forest Products Engineering (cum laude) degree in 1978 and MS Forestry in 1983 from UPLB, and Ph.D. degree from Virginia Tech, USA in 1990. He was elected Honorary Member of the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFF) in 2005. He was awarded UPLB Outstanding Teacher in the Physical Sciences in 1999, UPLB Outstanding Alumnus (Mancono Award) in 2008, and the 2010 Most Outstanding Scientist in Forest Utilization Research given by FORESPI. He recently completed a study entitled “Harnessing NTFPs for the green economy. The potentials of non-timber forest products in the Southeast Asian region”.
