The United Nations Climate Summit at the end of September: The New York Declaration on Forests, aimed at stopping deforestation, recognized three African nations for their commitments to restore collectively more than 25 million hectares of forest. This was part of a plan to restore 350 million hectares of forest by 2030. Several organizations though declined invitations to sign the pact. According to them the pact fails to lay out concrete action to fight climate change. Some experts also worry that the announcements are little more than political posturing.
