Dietary diversity and sustainability for over 150 million residents of Indonesia living near oil palm plantations is a key research focus, leading to valuable findings, scientists say. It turns out that biofuel plantations could be central to meeting landscape restoration targets in Indonesia while helping the country meet growing energy demand. Smallholders are eligible for funds via crude palm oil levies, which would help make their plantations more productive and reduce the need to expand into forests. Tracking deforestation with a new interactive atlas will allow governments to monitor forest activities and learn more about the management of diverse ecosystems.
