The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the lead U.S. Government Agency working to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential. USAID is one of CIFOR’s top funders, supporting research since 1995. CIFOR is currently implementing several USAID-supported projects including, among others, the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Tropical Forest Biodiversity, Sustainable Wetlands Adaptation and Mitigation Program, Developing Systems for Reducing Emissions from Land Use, and Governing Oil Palm Landscapes for Sustainability. Additionally USAID is supporting a new line of work on access to finance for sustainable production by smallholder farmers in Southeast Asia.
