Douglas Sheil\'s training is in forest ecology, management and conservation. His research interests are multidisciplinary and address the assessment and management of biodiversity and ecological processes in changing forest landscapes. His main field experience is in East Africa and Southeast Asia. He worked at CIFOR from 1998 to 2008 and led CIFOR’s Multidisciplinary Landscape Assessment and Life After Logging activities among others. He spent a year in Wageningen, the Netherlands working on, among other things, a co-authored book: Tropical Rain Forest Ecology, Diversity and Conservation published by Oxford University Press (see http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780199285884.do). After leaving CIFOR Douglas was director of the Institute of Tropical Forest Conservation (ITFC) based in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwest Uganda, and a visiting professor in Southern Cross University in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. Now he works for the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. He remains a CIFOR Senior Associate.
