Michael Dwyer

Postdoctoral fellow, Center for International Forestry Research

Mike joined CIFOR in August 2013 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Governance team. A graduate of UC Berkeley’s Energy and Resources Group, Mike investigates the social and legal geographies of agricultural investment, infrastructure and conservation. Building on his dissertation research in the mid-2000s (Territorial Affairs: Turning Battlefields into Marketplaces in Postwar Laos, 2011), Mike has been studying land titling in Cambodia since 2011, and recently completed a postdoc at the University of Bern’s Centre for Development and Environment. At CIFOR, Mike is engaging REDD+-related policy debates by investigating the regulatory politics of land-intensive commodity production. His work will initially examine all of Southeast Asia, and then narrow to a focus on Laos over the next two years.
