A bioenergy trial in Central Kalimantan aims to restore degraded land and boost local livelihoods. In the 2015 peatland fires, Buntoi village’s community crops were burned, leaving the land degraded. A new trial on a two-hectare plot aims to test the potential of five types of bioenergy crops to restore the land, bring income to the community, and provide a renewable source of energy. The trial is now being carried out by researchers from Muhammadiyah University in Palangka Raya, together with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the Korea Forest Service (NIFoS) and the local community.
