About PSP

Permanent Sample Plot is an important tool to monitor forest dynamics and changes. Such changes may be quantified in terms of growth, mortality, structure, composition etc., which are needed to develop and test management practices and ecological models. In short PSP has been traditionally used for sylvicultural purposes. There is an opportunity that the use of PSP be expanded to evaluate services provided by forest ecosystems, such as biodiversity and watershed conservation. In addition, PSP data such as Mean Annual Increment (MAI) and Current Annual Increment (CAI) can be used to validate carbon sequestration model for particular forest type at stand and landscape level.
