Photographer’s remarks

The status of women in the hill area usually depends on the economic roles they play. The tibtian in the past were usually forest dwellers and their livelihoods depended to a great extent on food-gathering. More than men, women walked long distances to fetch wood and fodder. Besides, they also collected fruits, roots and tubers, lac, gums and leaves for self-consumption and sale. The men also helped them by collecting timber and logs.
