Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan meluncurkan Indonesian National Accounting Carbon System (INCAS), sistem penghitungan emisi karbon dari sektor penggunaan lahan dan alih fungsi hutan di sela-sela Global Landscape Forum (GLF), di Palais de Congres Paris, Perancis. Peluncuran sistem penghitungan emisi karbon itu dipimpin Utusan Khusus Presiden untuk Perubahan Iklim, Rachmat Witoelar, bersama Menteri Lingkungan Hidup Australia, Greg Hunt, dan General Director CIFOR, Peter Holmgren.

At climate talks, African nations pledge to restore forests
During the Global Landscapes Forum at the U.N. climate talks, the World Bank and the German government and other partners, set aside more than $1 billion in development funding and $540 million in private funding for the African reforestation. More than a dozen African countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda, have pledged millions of acres to the project. West African nations along the Sahara desert have also pledged to plant more trees to stop the ever encroaching desert from destroying more arable land.

Okonjo-Iweala suggests ways to meet climate change challenges
Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has suggested creative ways to meet the world’s climate change challenges. She said Saturday while addressing the High-Level Opening Plenary, Global Landscapes Forum, in Paris, France: “Public funding needs to play a large role. Communities typically need to stop planting or grazing on steep slopes, which have to be reforested. Terracing or other forms of land and water management for agriculture are often necessary. Property rights and responsibilities of those on the land need to be formalised.”
Australia establishes International Partnership for Blue Carbon
At the Global Landscapes Forum in Paris, Australia is pleased to announce that we are establishing an International Partnership for Blue Carbon. The Partnership brings together governments, non-profit organisations, intergovernmental agencies, and scientists to increase understanding of, and accelerate action on the important role of coastal blue carbon ecosystems in climate change action. CIFOR is one of the founding members of the International Partnership for Blue Carbon.

The Global Landscape Forum, held in Paris Saturday, presented some recent works showing that Arabica coffee production is tremendously threatened by global warming. Warmer climate means warmer soils, and that means less production.
