Herry Purnomo presents at Jakarta Foreign Correspondents’ Club panel on fire and haze

Herry Purnomo, CIFOR scientist leading the research on the ‘Political Economy of Fire and Haze’ joined a panel discussion on fire and haze, organized by the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club on 23 September. Herry joined a panel with Tony Wenas, Managing Director of APRIL Indonesia; Tofan Mahdi, Public Relations at the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers’ Association (GAPKI); and Anisa Rahmawati, Forest Campaigner at Greenpeace Indonesia.

Herry delivered initial research findings, providing insight into the estimated costs of the fires and haze in 2015 and shedding light on the vast network of actors engaged in and benefiting from fire.

The panel discussion attracted 100 members of the Jakarta foreign press corps as well as representatives from donor agencies, embassies, international organizations and the private sector.

This is the second media event that the project has engaged in. Previously, Herry presented at a conference convened by the Society of Indonesian Science Journalists workshop on 29 August in Bogor. Herry delivered a similar presentation to an audience of 30 journalists from national media outlets including Kompas, Tempo, detik.com, Tribun, Republika among others.
