Wild meat
Wild meat includes over 500 wild vertebrate species traded and
consumed throughout Oceania, South America, South and Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan
Africa. In remote rural communities, it is an important source of protein, but
increases in urban population and trade between rural and urban areas, where it is
considered a luxury food, are pushing some wild meat species populations to the point
of extinction.
