Hearing at Parliament featuring the Furniture Value Chain project

The head of CIFOR’s Furniture Value Chain in Jepara, Herry Purnomo, research assistant Ramadhani Achdiawan, lobbyist and facilitator of the Furniture Value Chain projec, Sulthon were invited by the Jepara House of Parliament in a forum to present the road map of the Jepara Furniture Industry 2013–2023, on 4 February 2013.

The forum was led by the Chairs of the House of Parliament, Jaffar Siddiq and Aris Isnandar, and attended by the members of Parliament from Commission B on Economic and Industry, local government and the media. Herry Purnomo presented CIFOR’s activities in the Project of Furniture Value Chain and the road map of the Jepara Furniture Industry 2013 – 2023 followed by discussions.

At the end of the discussion, the Chairs and Parliament made five conclusions and statements:

  1. On behalf of people of Jepara, the House of Parliament expressed their appreciation and gratitude to CIFOR for their research in Jepara and documentation of the road map of Jepara Furniture 2013-2023.
  2. The House of Parliament request local governments to follow up on the recommendations in the road map document and to discuss these with local stakeholders.
  3. The Chairs of the House of Parliament gave a mandate to Commission B to discuss the recommendations in the road map with local government about necessary actions.
  4. The House of Parliament will formulise the road map as a the house initiative district regulation in 2013 (PERDA Inisiatif).
  5. The House of Parliament request that the local government interpret and package the program detailed in the road map into the local government programs.

After the hearing, Dani was interviewed by local newspaper and Herry participated a short meeting with Commission B. Afterwards, the group visited Margono’s workshop, a chairperson of Jepara small-scale furniture producer association (APKJ), to discuss the evaluation of the project and further activities.
