The Bruneian Dollar (BND) is the official currency of Brunei Darussalam.
Money changers
Money-changing services are available at the airport, banks, hotels and by some licensed money changers.
Banks
Banks in Brunei Darussalam are generally open Monday to Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm, and on Saturdays from 9:00am-11:00am. Islamic banks follow the same operational hours, but are closed for prayers between 11:00am-2:30pm.
Credit cards
Hotels, department stores and other major establishments generally accept all internationally recognized credit cards.
Duty-free allowance
The import of cigarettes and other tobacco products are subject to custom duties. For cigarettes, the custom duty is B$0.25 tax per stick (equal to B$5.00 per pack of 20 cigarettes, and B$50.00 for one carton of 10 packs). For liquor and beer, custom duties will not be charged to passengers carrying up to two bottles of liquor plus 12 cans of beer (only applicable to non-Muslims).
Shopping
A range of shopping experiences can be found in Brunei Darussalam, from international branded outlets to local handicraft sellers. Department stores and other shops are generally open from 10:00am-10:00pm, except on Fridays when all shops and restaurants are closed from 12:00pm-2:00pm to allow for Friday prayers.
