Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity, Vanuatu

HE Matai Seremaiah is Vanuatu’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity. He was appointed this role in early 2016 after being elected as an independent from the Santo Constituency. In his short time as Minister, Seremaiah has expressed his strong commitment to mitigating climate change through sustainable forest management in Vanuatu.

Speaking at an International Day of Forests Launch in March 2016 in Port-Vila, Seremaiah announced a suite of national tree planting and reforestation initiatives, declaring that “Vanuatu does not have the technology to produce renewable energy products like solar panels but we will plant trees to fight climate change.”

He also runs a successful shipping business, and is a former CEO of the Northern Islands Stevedoring Company.
