Representative, Jepara Smallholders' Furniture Association

Margono is a founding member of the Jepara Smallholders’ Furniture Association (APKJ). The son of a carpenter and a farmer in Central Java, Margono learned to make furniture at age 9, and by age 10 was selling furniture to pay for his schooling and support his family. He started his own successful business in Jakarta in 1988. Together with APKJ he has been involved in CIFOR studies on timber, and continues to strive for high-quality, ethical and sustainable products.
