Rainforests are tree-dominated ecosystems with high biodiversity. It's important because habitat for many plants and animals, reducing global warming, erosion. Photograph was taken at Aeknauli Arboretum, near Lake Toba, at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level. Picture depicts the Crimson-winged Woodpecker (Picus puniceus) which pecked Cupressus benthami tree to make the nest. This location is in the Asia-Pacific rainforest area, if not protected, the biodiversity that lives here will be extinct.
