What is the Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit Photo Competition?
The Asia-Pacific Rainforest Summit (APRS) is organized by the Indonesian Government with the support of the Australian Government, and in partnership with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA).
The Photo Competition is your chance to express to leaders in the region and beyond why our rainforests matter. All qualified entries will be displayed online in the lead-up to the event, while the top 20 will be shown in Yogyakarta during APRS.
A cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to the Jury’s Choice winner, while the Jury’s Choice runner-up and Audience’s Choice winner taking home $500 each.
What kind of photos are you looking for?
We are looking for photographs that highlight the value of rainforests in the Asia-Pacific region.
These can include photos of rainforests and forest landscapes, the communities who live in and around forests, forest products for trade, health or nutrition, diverse plants and animals that highlight the region’s rich biodiversity, or anything else that expresses why our rainforests matter.

Who can participate?
Everybody is welcome to participate — the competition is open to professional and hobby photographers alike.
How do I submit a photo?
Just fill out our online form, following the guidelines below:
- Upload your photo:
- Please submit your photo in .jpg format, with a minimum size of 3,000 pixels in height or width and with a maximum size of 9MB.
- Add a photo title and your name: The title of the photograph and the photographer’s name should be specified in the file name, for example: Jungle-JohnSmith.jpg
- Tell us why you think our rainforests matter. Explain how your photo expresses the value of rainforests in the Asia-Pacific region. Where was the photo taken, and what is special about that place? Who is in the photo and what are they doing? Let us know what the rainforest means to you (maximum 500 characters; due to in-house limitations on translation, descriptions are only accepted in English).
How many photos can I submit?
Each participant is allowed to submit up to three (3) photographs. Submissions will be accepted until midnight (GMT +7) on 13 April 2018.
Terms and conditions
By submitting pictures to the competition, photographers agree to grant the organizers and their partners a Creative Commons, attribution, non-commercial share-alike license (CC BY-NC-SA). The organizers agree to make the pictures publicly available under the same license. Organizers and their partners will use the pictures submitted for event materials and the exhibition at the APRS. Photographers will be given proper credit when the organizers publish or use their pictures. The organizers will not use the pictures for commercial purposes.
Selected professional photographers who work for the media will have to attach an authorization signed by the representative of the media company which employs them. It should state that the photographs have the permission to be published by the organizers of this contest mentioning the author and the media outlet in which it originally appeared.
